Cindy and I plan to use this blog to communicate our adventures on Avventura to our family and friends. We hope you enjoy it!
Avventura is currently in a marina in Brunswick, GA. Our adventure so far has included trips from Newport RI to Annapolis MD in October 2015, a trip down the Chesapeake in April 2016 to Norfolk VA, Norfolk to Charleston SC in May, and Charleston to Brunswick GA in October 2016. We have learned that she loves the open ocean and handles well even in rough seas. She does NOT like the Intracoastal Waterway, where shallow water and bridge clearances are a constant concern.
We plan to return to her in early Jan 2017 and sail to Fort Lauderdale, where we have 10 days of refit work. Weather willing, we hope to sail directly from Ft. Lauderdale to the Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico (approx. 1,000 miles) in the last week of January. Our goal is to be in Trinidad by early May 2017, where we will leave the boat for the summer, with the plan of returning to her in the fall of 2017.
When we can we will update this blog with pictures and comments about the places we visit. On days when we are sailing, we intend to use our InReach tracking device to show you our location and progress. The link to our track is located in the sidebar to the right.
